We work to master the technique of authentic Mexican folkloric dance while communicating the rich culture and tradition that each dance symbolizes. We'd like to introduce you to the director, dancers, and dedicated families that makes Ballet Papalotl what it is.
Dr Kenya Marquez
Founder and Artistic Director
Dr. Kenya R. Márquez comes from a family of profesional musicians and dancers. In addition to a PhD in Psychology she studied dance at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico, and Mexican folkloric dance in Paris, France. She is also Portland Dance Ambassador at Dance Wire (2019 and 2024), and received the Lifetime Achievement award for World Arts Foundation.
